Monkey Business

More greatness from Howard Hawkes (he’s now in my good books again after seeing the very dull Bringing Up Baby). Grant and Rogers are fabulous, Grant having a monkey imitate him just as every man should want to.

Filled with wordplay and innuendos it is perfect for the fifties era of the Hays Code and female sexuality.

Marilyn is a ‘pin up’ figure in the film, only, although that’s not necessarily unfortunate- her legs do get referred to as ‘acetates’ after all. Ginger gets to do some dancing which just gets me excited about watching many more of her earlier musicals- or any musicals, at that. I should watch som of the Doris Day film set I got for Christmas.
